Professor Arie Hasman

He was born on February 1, 1945 in Papendrecht, the Netherlands. He studied physics and did his PhD work at the Technical University Delft. He got his PhD in 1971. From 1971 to 1974 he worked in the department Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine of the St Radboud hospital Nijmegen.

From 1974 to 1985 he worked at the department Medical Informatics of the Free University Amsterdam. In 1985 he was appointed professor in Medical Informatics at the University Maastricht. From 1991 to 2005 he was also is part-time professor at the Technical University Eindhoven. In 2004 he was appointed Professor in Medical Informatics at AMC-UvA in Amsterdam. From 2010 he is Emeritus Professor.

Arie Hasman published more than 400 publications and was author of a number of books. He has researched in the areas of databases, signal processing, image processing, decision support systems and education. He was supervisor of 37 PhD candidates. He was chairing the EFMI WG on education for many years. He was editor of the International Journal of Medical Informatics and member of the Editorial Boards of: Computer methods and programs in biomedicine, Methods of information in medicine, The Journal of Informatics in Primary Care, and International Journal of Healthcare and Technology management.
